Simply fill up the TVL application form and submit with a non-refundable $40 application fee by post or by hand to LTA. The approval process takes about one month* from the date of application. An acknowledgement notice from LTA will be issued to you. If your application is successful, you will be issued a notification letter from LTA to either undergo an interview** session by STA or proceed directly with your letter of approval to register for the Taxi Vocational License Course (TVLC) at any of the approved training centers. *The approval process takes a month as your application will have to be screened for criminal and traffic offences as well.

* An interview is conducted if there is a necessity to evaluate your English Proficiency. We advised applicant to forward all necessary educational documentations when submitting the application form. You will have to attend the interview at least once within 3 months from your first interview date, if you fail to do so, you will have to start the whole process again.

Together with your LTA approval letter, you will also receive a medical form. You will be required to
undergo a complete medical check-up with a chest x-ray. This could be done at any clinics in Singapore.
If the clinic is unable to perform an x-ray for you, you can proceed to SATA to complete the x-ray.

After completing the medical check-up, you can proceed to register for the Taxi Vocational License Course at any of the approved Training Center’s (Singapore Taxi Academy, Comfort or SMRT Taxis). Do bear in mind that you will be requested to enroll for the course within 3 months and to complete the course within 1 year from date of approval.

To register at Singapore Taxi Academy, please bring the following documents:
- LTA’s Approval Letter (Original Copy)
- Completed Medical Form together with X-Ray results
- A photocopy of your NRIC
- A photocopy of your Valid Class 3 Driving License
- A cheque or cash payment of $258* (Cheques should be made payable to “Singapore Taxi Academy’)
* STA is a non-profit organization and not GST Registered.

The TVLC is a pre-requisite for you to obtain a TVL. It comprises of 30 three-hour session of classroom
training and one outdoor excursion. You will have to pass a written examination at the end of the course.
The TVLC is renewable every 3 years.

Module 2: Routes & Landmarks
Module 3: General Paper
(Simple Vehicle Maintenance, Healthy Living, Highway Code)
Module 4: Defensive Driving Course
Module 5: Names & Locations of Buildings.
Compulsory Excursion (On Sunday)

At the end of the course, applicants will be required to sit for a written exam. Applicants who pass the exam will be informed by LTA, within 1 month from the date of the test, to collect their Taxi Driver Vocational License (TDVL). TDVL fee is $40 for a 3 year period.

Note: For new applicant, the application fee of $40 is inclusive of the first issuance of TDVL with a 3 year validity period.
